During the WWDC 2013 Apple unveiled, as widely expected, the new mobile operating system iOS 7 that will power our iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
iOS 7 has been completely redesigned with a new user interface, but will be immediately familiar to the hundreds of millions of iPhone users, iPad and iPod touch in the world. The new interface makes the phone look bigger, because everything is designed to take advantage of the entire screen. Also redesigned the fonts appear beautiful on the Retina display, creating an even sharper text.
iOS 7 introduces Control Center. With new Control Center users can quickly use the apps, settings they mostly use in their daily life. Just swipe your finger on the bottom of the screen to access the controls for the airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Do Not Disturb, and to have the ability to set the brightness of the screen, or pause or play a song, skip to the next track and stream music via AirPlay. Control Center also provides immediate access to apps like Clock, Camera, Calculator, and the Torch.
With iOS 7, Notification Center is now available from the lock screen so you can see all the notifications simply touching the screen, while the new function Notification Center offers a panoramic view with a summary of the most important information such as weather, traffic, meetings and events.
Thanks to improved multitasking in iOS 7, developers can enable multitasking in the background of any app with a new API. Users can move from app to a more intuitive and visual, while iOS 7 records which are most often used ones and update the content automatically, always in the background.
Airdrop is a completely new way to quickly and easily share content with people around us. When the user wants to share something, Airdrop shows user contacts to people close by. Just choose who to share with and AirDrop will take care of everything else. The money is transferred in a peer-to-peer so you can use Airdrop in any place, without the need for network or application configurations, and in total safety, as transfers are encrypted and the contents remain secure and private.
IPhones camera are used more than any other camera in the world to take pictures every day, and thanks to the new iOS 7 Camera app includes filters to add real-time effects to the shots. The Camera app also includes a filter option square, and you can now quickly and easily change between the four available options (video, photos, square and landscape) simply by touching the screen.
iOS 7 introduces redesigned Pictures Moments, a new way to automatically organize photos and videos based on the date and at the place where they were taken. Users can zoom out and see all the photos organized by Moments, Moments and Collections of years. iOS 7 also includes iCloud Photo Sharing, the easiest way to share the photos you want to share only with who you want. Thanks to iCloud Photo Sharing, friends and family can contribute photos and videos to stream shared, while the new view shows all the updates from the Activity Stream shared in one place.
The new interface for Safari allows you to view even more content, from full-screen browsing. The new Smart Search Field helps to simplify the search, and there is also a new view for your favorites and tabs in Safari. Keychain With iCloud, passwords and credit card information is stored securely and available on all devices of the user, who can then more easily navigate sites protected by password or fill in online forms automatically. Parental controls allow you to block automatically optimized access to adult websites or to allow access only to a specific set of allowed sites.
Siri is even more enjoyable to listen to with the new male and female voices, and includes the integration of research on Twitter to ask Siri what people are saying on Twitter. Siri is now integrated with Wikipedia, to access the site of the world’s most famous landmark. It also offers web search Bing within the app and the ability to change the settings of the device and listen to voice messages.
The Music app has a new, beautiful design and includes iTunes Radio, a new service of free Internet radio with more than 200 stations and an incredible catalog of music from the iTunes Store, only with functions that iTunes is able to offer. iTunes Radio is the best way to discover new music. iTunes Radio evolves based on the music that you listen to and download. The more you use iTunes and iTunes Radio, the radio will understand more what you like and listen to the experience becomes more personalized. iTunes Radio also offers exclusive previews with “early plays” the most famous artists, integration with Siri and the ability to buy content with a twist.
With over 900,000 apps, the App Store is the largest application store in the world. iOS 7 has new function which is Popular Apps Near Me, a new way to find apps based on the user’s location, and also ensures the constant updating of the app. The App Store offers a new category Kids, where teachers and parents can find applications suited for children based on age.
Additional new features in iOS 7 include:
- Lock Activation new feature in Find My iPhone, which requires Apple ID and password for the decommissioning of Find My iPhone, deleting data, or the reactivation of a device after a restore from a distance;
- Night Mode in Maps, which responds to ambient light when using the app in the dark;
- FaceTime audio for high quality calls over a data network;
- Notifications synchronization, so when a notification is disposed on a device can be played on all others;
- block Phone, FaceTime and Messages, to prevent certain persons to contact you;
- support for Tencent Weibo users in China, a Chinese-English bilingual dictionary and improved an entry of the Chinese language, including handwriting recognition for multiple characters;
- opportunities for businesses to use and manage more effectively the iPhone and iPad;
- optimized integration for cars, which leads for the first time an innovative Apple also signed at the wheel.
The iOS beta 7 software and SDK are available immediately for iOS Developer Program members through developer.apple.com. iOS 7 will be available this fall as a free software update for iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPod touch and iPad mini (fifth generation). Some features may not be available on all products.
